Brendan C. Child
B i o g r a p h y
I am Brendan Child. I was born in October of 1994 in Ogden, Utah. I am the second of three in a very musical family. I started taking piano lessons when I was five years old by my mother. Although the lessons were very short-lived, I began to develop a deep love for music.
My passion for music grew only deeper when I saw my older brother, Stephen Child, perform as a member of the Davis High School Marching Band in Kaysville, UT. The feeling of excitement I got when I would see them perform was so exhilarating! The idea of getting a group of people together and making something so beautiful out of seemingly small parts still fascinates me. I began to learn playing the trumpet, then the baritone, and into high school, percussion.
I marched in the 2013 Rose Bowl Parade with the Davis High School Marching Band, participated in the Davis High Wind Ensemble, and was undefeated for three years with the High School Indoor Drumline. I also participated in the 2016 and 2017 Weber State Indoor Percussion ensemble, where we traveled and competed in Las Vegas, and have taken awards for outstanding snare section, first and second place throughout the season, and various music performance captions.
I marched as a member of the inaugural year for the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps in Salt Lake City, UT. After completing a year and aging out with the Battalion, I was invited back as a tour manager for the 2017 summer tour.
I had the privilege to work with the Roy High School Marching Band for two years as Battery Caption Head, and the Roy High School Indoor Drumline for a year as Battery Caption Head, Music Director, and Show designer for the 2016 indoor season. At Roy High School, I was blessed to teach with some of the best: Daniel Winsor, Walter Rosio, Tyler Hess, Parker Brown, Nicklaus Johnston, Hannah Polevoi, Chris Gwilliam, and Dallion Kotter.
I I have studied under Heath Wolf, Mitchell Barnard, Alex Entin, Nicholas Jackson, Kyle Pridgen, Tyler Hess, Paul Rennick, Michael Williams, Jeff Queen, Jeff Ausdemore, and Sam Bryson for percussion and Dr. Shannon Roberts and Hans Zimmer for composition.
I currently play for Green Man Group with Utah Valley Univeristy, work as Front Ensemble Coordinator for Ogden High School Indoor, and am looking to write and teach for local groups.
